The 9Rounder’s Playbook to Staying Fit During Tailgate Season

Get your favorite jerseys ready, because football season is officially back! Whether you’ll be spending your weekends sporting collegiate colors at your Alma Mater or inviting friends over to watch the pros on your big screen at home, we’re here with a few tips to help you navigate cookouts and tailgates without sabotaging your fitness routine.
1. Hit the gym before a game.
A great way to hold yourself accountable is by knocking out your gym session in the morning before socializing begins. When you sweat it out before kickoff, there’s no need to worry about rushing to the gym after the game is over to make sure you get your daily dose of exercise! Postponing your workout until game day festivities conclude could mean you’re more likely to skip the gym for several reasons, like feeling drained from spending the day outside in the heat or getting caught up celebrating your favorite team’s victory. No matter what time of day you plan to start showing your team spirit, there’s always time for fitness! Even if you only have an extra thirty minutes in your morning, that’s just enough time to get a short, yet intense workout, like 9Round, which leaves you plenty of time to snag your spot to get the best view of the game.
2. Have a tailgating game plan.
Just like the players on the field have memorized plays in preparation for the big game, you can be proactive and have your own game plan before heading to tailgates and cookouts. That means making smart moves, like skipping the tailgating junk food and opting for healthier snacking options. Try reaching for a veggie tray instead of piling on foods that are deep-fried and covered in grease. Staying hydrated should be included in your playbook too, so be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day and avoid excess alcohol.
3. Down, set, hike!
Instead of taking a seat for the duration of tailgates, get moving! Bring a football to toss with other fans, or play yard games, like cornhole, to stay on your feet while you socialize. Pre-kickoff games aren’t the only way to get your heart rate up, though. If you’re watching the game from home, come up with a game-time workout to add a little extra exercise into your day! Here are some great examples of easy 9Round-themed moves you can do while you watch the game:
