Becoming a Fighter

Becoming a Fighter

Katy Perry said it best (those are five words we never thought we'd say), "I've got the eye of the tiger, a fighter - Dancing through the fire - 'Cause I am the champion, and you're gonna hear me roar."  Or maybe it was Rocky Balboa when he said, "It ain't about how hard you hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward." Whether you're channeling Katy Perry or Rocky as you approach obstacles in your life, having a positive attitude and winning the battle in your head is the first step to conquering whatever life throws your way. Great fighters don't only train for the physical aspects of a fight, they train themselves mentally as well.  Read on for a few tips to help you win the war inside your head before you fight your battles.

1. See Yourself as a Fighter

First things first: You have to start looking at yourself as a fighter. Realize that you’re the person who is in control of your life. It’s not the economy, your family, spouse, or boss. This is your life…own it!

2. Know Yourself

What makes you angry, sad, fearful? How do you make decisions? What’s most important in your life? If you want to win your inner battles, you have to know your enemy.

3. You’re Not Perfect - Accept It

Don’t continuously beat yourself up for making mistakes. This is life. It’s unpredictable and sometimes it just doesn’t make any sense. When you try to be perfect, you’re always at war with yourself and nothing is ever good enough.

4. Believe in Yourself

Self-doubt gets in the way of so many things that we set out to accomplish in life. A little self-belief goes a long way in emerging victorious from battle. Any fighter that goes into the ring with the belief that he will lose, will almost always lose.

5. Keep Moving

No matter what you do, never stand still. Life doesn’t stop and wait for you to catch-up. A fighter never enters the ring and stands still. A fighter moves, bobs, weaves, attacks. When you are faced with adversity, keep moving forward.

We see fighters walk through the doors at 9Round every day, the majority of which will never, ever set foot in a ring. People fighting silent, unseen opponents. People fighting for their lives, fighting to overcome adversity, fighting for 30 minutes in a day where all they have to think about is kicking a heavy bag. The strength, courage, and determination that we see in 9Rounders every day inspires us. Has 9Round helped you fight one of life's battles?
